2ND MENTORING DAY AT SHIFT

Another great day of mentoring young creative graduates at the Shift programme!

Shift is an internship programme for young creatives, organised by Newcastle-based Studio Precept. It involves a wide variety of mentors from the industry, to advise the interns and give them practical skills through focused workshops.

Attaya director Lalya (well that’s me writing this post anyway, init) is one of the expert mentors recruited for the programme, where she’s holding a series of workshops and seminars about design for digital interactions in 3D physical space in general, and urban interaction design in particular.

This session was open to the public and ended with presentations of group projects, which ranged from interactive furniture to street art for the elderlies. Great fun!

Spotlight on Teresa Almeida – Northern Design Festival

Another Attaya Projects collaborator featured in our showcase at Northern Design Festival is Teresa Almeida. Teresa is an artist, designer, researcher, and educator whose main interests are wearable and soft technology, craft, tangible and embodied interfaces, ecology, sustainability, and design for empowerment and social innovation. She is currently a PhD student at the Digital Interaction Group at Culture Lab, Newcastle University.

Teresa is showing some of her work with e-textiles throughout the festival and holding a workshop about DIY creative electronics, together with Lalya Gaye, on 12th October between 11.00-14.00 at B&D Studios. Outcome of the workshop will be displayed at the showcase during the rest of the festival.

First Mentoring Day at Shift!

Fun day teaching urban interaction design, physical computing and iterative prototyping at the Shift internship programme today!

A little bit of projection mapping… a little bit of Arduino… a fair amount of overview on seminal projects and relevant design methods… and a lot of iterative prototyping and group projects(-ing)!

Attaya director Lalya (well that’s me writing this post anyway, init) is one of the expert mentors recruited for the programme, and this was the first of a series of regular workshops she’s holding at Shift about design for digital interactions in 3D physical space in general, and urban interaction design in particular.

The next one will take place in October and will be open to the public as well, after registration!

Sonic Interaction Design Symposium and Book Launch

Attaya’s director Lalya is giving a talk at the Sonic Interaction Design Symposium and book launch at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) on 2nd May.

The symposium is organised by Karmen Franinovic and Stefania Serafin on the occasion of the launch of a new book “Sonic Interaction Design” coming out in Spring 2013 on MIT Press, as part of the European COST-Action project of the same name. More information about the book can be found here.

Other speakers at the symposium include Frauke Behrendt from University of Brighton, Alessandro Altavilla and Atau Tanaka from Goldsmiths University, and Ramón de Marco from Swiss audio design company Idee und Klang.
